Office of Aging and Long Term Care

The Office of Aging and Long Term Care, (OALTC) led by Dr. Rosemary Chapin, is located in the University of Kansas School of Social Welfare. The KU School of Social Welfare is the conceptual home of the strengths perspective, and the OALTC has pioneered the strengths based approach in work with older adults. We are leaders in applied research to improve social service practice and policy with older adults. Collaboration with older adults, community, and state partners ensures that research findings result in policy change and the implementation of empirically-based interventions.

Our office also prepares tomorrow's scholars and practitioners in gerontological social work.  We provide strengths based gerontological resources, training, and unique educational opportunities that help develop faculty and student's knowledge and skills in working with older adults. Faculty and staff work with state agencies such as the Kansas Department on Aging, and federal agencies as well as with a variety of other public and private service organizations and foundations, to provide research, training and technical support.
